Not getting enough from your HubSpot investment?

We help B2B teams fix broken workflows, automate follow-up, and turn HubSpot into a revenue engine.

Paid advertising has always required a specific kind of context-switching — out of your CRM and campaign reporting into an ad platform, back out again to update audience segments, over to your content tool to generate copy, back into the ad platform to upload assets. The workflow is fragmented by design, because each platform wants to be its own ecosystem.

HubSpot’s integration with ChatGPT Ads is an attempt to reduce some of that fragmentation for teams whose ad strategy runs through HubSpot’s Marketing Hub. The integration lets you create, launch, and manage ads in ChatGPT’s advertising platform from inside HubSpot, with CRM data informing audience targeting and campaign performance reporting coming back into HubSpot alongside your other channel data.

This is new enough that most teams haven’t encountered it, and the marketing around it is optimistic enough that it warrants a more careful examination. Here’s what the integration actually does, what it requires to use, and how it compares to running ads through the native tools the platforms already provide.

What ChatGPT Ads Actually Is

Before covering the HubSpot integration, it’s worth clarifying what ChatGPT advertising is, because it’s a relatively new channel that many B2B marketers haven’t run campaigns on yet.

OpenAI launched native advertising in ChatGPT as a way for brands to appear in ChatGPT search results and AI-generated responses. When a ChatGPT user asks a question that’s relevant to a product or service category, brands can bid to have their offering surfaced in the response — either as a sponsored mention in the AI’s answer or as a result in ChatGPT’s search experience.

For B2B marketers, this represents a new surface area: reaching buyers during the research phase when they’re actively using AI tools to evaluate options. A prospect asking “what’s the best tool for managing B2B email marketing?” inside ChatGPT is expressing exactly the buying intent you’d want to capture. ChatGPT Ads puts your brand in front of that buyer in that moment.

The channel is still in early stages compared to Google or Meta. Targeting options, reporting depth, and bidding controls are less mature. But the intent signal at the point of an AI query is high, which makes it interesting for B2B categories with complex, research-heavy buying processes.

What the HubSpot Integration Adds

HubSpot's ChatGPT Ads Integration: What It Does, What It Costs, and How It Compares to Meta's Native AI - inline image

The HubSpot ChatGPT Ads integration does three things:

Audience sync from your CRM. You can use HubSpot contact lists and segments as the targeting audience for your ChatGPT Ads campaigns, without manually exporting a list and uploading it to the ad platform. If you have a segment of contacts in the consideration stage at companies with 200+ employees in your target industries, you can target that exact segment directly from Marketing Hub.

This is the most valuable part of the integration for B2B teams. The ability to use your CRM’s segmentation logic — which can be significantly more sophisticated than what ad platforms’ native audience tools support — to define your ad audience is a meaningful capability. You’re not approximating your ICP with demographic and interest targeting; you’re targeting the actual people in your CRM who match your criteria.

Campaign creation and management from HubSpot. You can create ChatGPT Ads campaigns, write ad copy, set budgets, and manage live campaigns from inside HubSpot’s Marketing Hub rather than going to a separate ChatGPT Ads interface. The Breeze Assistant can draft ad copy for the campaign using your Context Home data and brand voice.

Unified performance reporting. Campaign performance data from ChatGPT Ads comes back into HubSpot’s reporting, alongside your email, social, and other paid channel data. You can see impressions, clicks, and conversions in the same dashboard as your other campaigns without logging into a separate platform.

How It Compares to Meta’s Native AI

Meta has been building AI into its ad tools for years, and the comparison is worth making because the two integrations serve different purposes even though both involve AI-assisted ad creation and management.

What Meta’s native AI does better:

Meta’s AI advantage is in creative optimization. Meta has trained on billions of ad impressions and conversions, which gives its AI models genuine signal for predicting what creative elements drive performance for specific audiences. When Meta’s AI suggests headline variants, image crops, or audience expansions, those suggestions are grounded in performance data at a scale that HubSpot’s integration can’t match.

For B2C and high-volume B2B campaigns where creative testing at scale is the primary lever, Meta’s native AI tools are still ahead. Advantage+ campaigns, AI-driven audience expansion, and automated creative testing are capabilities that have matured over years of iteration.

What HubSpot’s ChatGPT Ads integration does better:

The HubSpot integration wins on CRM-connected targeting. Meta’s custom audiences work reasonably well, but they require a list export and upload cycle and the matching logic isn’t always clean. HubSpot’s direct sync uses your CRM segment logic — including custom properties, lifecycle stages, and behavioral data — to define audiences in a way that’s tighter and more current than a periodic list upload.

For B2B teams running account-based campaigns against a defined list of target companies or a specific segment of their existing contact database, HubSpot’s CRM-connected targeting is genuinely more precise.

The second advantage is the unified reporting. Having ChatGPT Ads performance in the same report as your email campaigns, your LinkedIn ads (if integrated), and your other paid channels gives you a cleaner view of cross-channel attribution without exporting data from multiple platforms.

What It Costs

The ChatGPT Ads integration is available through Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise. The integration itself doesn’t carry an additional platform fee — it’s included as a connected ads channel alongside Google Ads and Meta Ads integration.

The ad spend for ChatGPT Ads is paid directly to OpenAI, separate from your HubSpot subscription. ChatGPT Ads pricing works on a CPM (cost per thousand impressions) and CPC (cost per click) basis, with rates varying by category and targeting specificity. B2B software categories with specific audience targeting tend to command higher CPMs than broad consumer categories — this is consistent with how LinkedIn and Google behave for the same categories.

If you’re using Breeze Content Agent to generate ad copy through the integration, that does consume HubSpot Credits at the standard 1,000 credits per asset rate. Ad copy generation counts as a Content Agent output for credits purposes.

Who Should Use It

Good fit: B2B teams running account-based marketing who want to reach specific companies and roles through the ChatGPT channel. The CRM-connected targeting makes this more viable than it would be through ChatGPT’s native platform, where you’re working with broader audience categories rather than your exact list.

Good fit: Teams who want to test ChatGPT as a channel without committing to managing another ad platform interface. The ability to run initial tests from inside HubSpot lowers the setup friction for experimentation.

Not a fit yet: Teams running high-volume creative testing campaigns who need the kind of automated creative optimization that Meta’s AI tooling provides. HubSpot’s integration manages the campaign but doesn’t have the creative AI depth of Meta’s native tools.

Not a fit yet: Teams whose primary paid channel is search and who are getting strong results from Google. ChatGPT Ads is a complementary channel for catching buyers during AI-assisted research, not a replacement for intent-based search capture.

Setting Up the Integration

The setup is relatively straightforward for a Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise user:

Step 1: Go to Marketing > Ads in your HubSpot portal. You’ll see connected ad accounts alongside Google and Meta options.

Step 2: Connect your ChatGPT Ads account. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to set up an advertiser account through OpenAI’s advertising platform first.

Step 3: Authorize HubSpot to access your ChatGPT Ads account. The integration uses OAuth, so you grant access through the standard authorization flow.

Step 4: Create your first campaign from inside HubSpot. Select your audience from your HubSpot contact lists or build a new segment, set your budget, and use Breeze to draft initial ad copy if you want to test the AI-assisted creation workflow.

Step 5: Monitor performance in HubSpot’s ads reporting. Give the campaign enough time and budget to generate statistically meaningful data before drawing conclusions — ChatGPT Ads volume is lower than Meta or Google, so you need longer windows for meaningful performance data.

What We Don’t Know Yet

ChatGPT Ads as a channel is early, and the HubSpot integration is new. There are open questions that will only be answered by more time and data:

Attribution clarity. The attribution model for ChatGPT Ads is less mature than for Google or Meta. Understanding how a ChatGPT ad exposure translates to pipeline and closed revenue requires the multi-touch attribution that HubSpot’s Marketing Studio provides — but you need enough volume and time to see the full conversion path.

CPM and CPC stability. As more advertisers enter the ChatGPT Ads platform, the cost dynamics will shift. Early movers in new ad channels typically get favorable rates before competition drives CPMs up. This is the current state of ChatGPT Ads for most B2B categories.

Creative best practices. The ad formats and copy patterns that work well in ChatGPT’s environment are still being figured out. What works on Google (explicit intent matching) and what works on Meta (pattern-interrupt creative) may not map directly to what resonates in an AI assistant context where the user expects informative, direct responses.

The integration is worth connecting and testing, particularly for teams with specific account-based targeting use cases. Commit to a meaningful test budget — enough to generate real data — before deciding whether the channel deserves ongoing investment in your mix.
